There’s a huge variety of CBD products on the market and as a result there are many ways to consume those CBD products. Although the best way to take CBD is the sublingual method, what does that mean and how does it work?
Sublingual is a fancy way of saying, “under the tongue” where sub is a prefix meaning under, beneath, or below and lingual being from the Latin word lingua (tongue). It’s a term generally used to refer to something located under the tongue or administer via the tissues beneath the tongue. So, when referring to CBD and the sublingual method we’re talking about the consumption of CBD by placing it under the tongue through the use of CBD oils/drops/tinctures. Not to be confused with oral consumption which is what happens when swallowing CBD oil in your coffee, smoothie, cocktail or CBD gummies for example. Basically, if you’re eating or drinking it, it’s oral CBD, not sublingual.
How does the sublingual method work then? As soon as you place CBD oil beneath your tongue, your body starts putting it to work by allowing it to pass through the thin tissues in your mouth and quickly enter your bloodstream. From there CBD engages with your bodies endocannabinoid system (ECS) working to combat pain, inflammation, anxiety, etc. The sublingual method allows for fast acting effects through higher bioavailability, quicker absorption, and rapid utilization when compared to oral consumption which requires more of the digestive tract.
Many prefer CBD oil and the sublingual method for these reasons. And more often than not, CBD oils are also very minimal in ingredients. At Marmalade Lane our oils consist of CBD, grapeseed oil, and orange oil, that’s it! The best sublingual usage tip we give people in order to increase absorption, is to hold that CBD under your tongue for as long as you can. We know that can be difficult but it’s important to try for 1-2 minutes if you can. For more information, check out our previous blog posts or reach out anytime through Facebook or Instagram.
